Paul doing stand-up

Those of you familiar with Team Atrox primarily through our four-panel output may not realize that Atrox comics co-author and resident video director Paul Cibis is also an up-and-coming stand-up comedian. (You can click the link in the left sidebar and learn all about it.) We’d worried that Paul’s chances to take his observational stylings and cross over into a broadcast medium had ended with the cancellation of Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, but it turns out we were wrong!

Paul is one of seven comedians who performed for the special end-of-the-year installment of Chris Hardwick’s Nerdist Podcast, recorded in front of a live audience at Meltdown Comics here in Los Angeles. And now you can listen to it:

Live Entertainments

December 15th, 2010

Though the Lair of the Dreaded Atrox begins its winter solstice hiatus this week, don’t think that means that the individual members of Team Atrox are taking a break from attempting to amuse you! (We would never. We are constantly seeking your attention and approval.) Why, if you live in Los Angeles, there are two exciting opportunities for us to do so LIVE this very week!

TONIGHT, Wednesday Dec. 15th, Team Atrox’s resident stand-up Paul will be appearing as one of Chris Hardwick’s “Comics You Should Know” at Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. The line-up also includes Matt Braunger, Natasha Leggero, Kyle Kinane, Chris Fairbanks, and more, and the show will be hilarious and awesome. The whole presentation will be recorded for Hardwick’s The Nerdist podcast.

The Nerdist presents “Comics You Should Know” at Meltdown

December 15th 8:00PM
Meltdown Comics
7522 Sunset Blvd.

APE Coverage

October 26th, 2010

Hey! Here’s a nice mention of the Lair of the Dreaded Atrox in the APE write-up from CCSF’s The Guardsman:

“One comic in particular stood out for its unique layout. ‘The Lair of the Dreaded Atrox,’ co-authored by Jeff Stone and Leslie Levings, featured cute clay critters that brought it to life. The colorful three-inch figures are positioned and photographed with photoshopped text bubbles. The product is instantly recognizable and completely endearing.”

APE!

October 12th, 2010

Good news, gang! It’s time once again for APE, the indie comic convention so grand that they had to move the entrance to the other side of the building. Team Atrox will be making its annual sojourn to San Francisco for the event. You should come see us!

You’ll be able to find us, and the Beastlies, at Table 279. (Handy mnemonic: just remember the year that the Emperor Probus defeated the Vandals and Burgundians!) You can also check the map below for reference.

We’ll have all the usual mini-comics, shirts, prints, and tiny hand-sculpted creatures for sale, plus the usual booth babes, as seen in the photo below of this year’s Comic-Con table:

So if you’re in San Francisco this weekend, come out and see us! And if you’re in Los Angeles in the next two weeks, don’t forget that you can also see the new episode of Lost Moon Radio (details in the post below).

Lost Moon Radio Returns!

October 11th, 2010

If you enjoy the humor stylings of the Lair Dreaded Atrox, but also sometimes wish that a) there were more songs and b) more live performances, you might very well enjoy Frank’s side project, Lost Moon Radio.

Every installment of Lost Moon Radio features an hour of live comedy and original music hosted by slightly down-on-his-luck, extraplanetary disc jockey Jupiter Jack. The LAist calls it: “a hilarious hour of sketch, music and overarching story… a must-see show.” And the seventh all-new episode premieres this Thursday in LA!

All five performances will be followed by our ever-popular LIVE BAND KARAOKE party with house band, The Moon Units. And this time around, the party will be catered by some of Los Angeles’s finest food trucks-Barbie’s Q, Great Balls on Tires, and more!

For tickets, and to listen and watch highlights from previous installments, visit lostmoonradio.com.
