Introduction

Christopher Reeve

In October of 2004, the planet Earth lost one of its brightest stars: noted actor, director, author, and philanthropist Christopher Reeve. Reeve, rendered quadriplegic by a riding accident in 1995, became a tireless campaigner for disabled people, an aggressive promoter of treatments for spinal cord damage and neurological disease, and a vocal supporter of stem cell research. His persistent belief in the possibility of his own recovery, as well as his famous dedication to the physical therapies that might provide it, yielded small but substantial regeneration in his nervous system, an almost unheard of gain following his type of injury. A year and a half after his passing, Christopher Reeve and his efforts remain an inspiration, and humanity continues to mourn his absence, left in a World Without Christopher Reeve.

However, as surely anyone visiting this site is aware, in recent weeks four seeming reincarnations of Christopher Reeve have emerged, each vying to take up the mantle of Reeve’s legacy and life’s work. To many observers, it appears that each of these four individuals, their arrivals shrouded in mystery, desires to become America’s foremost champion of stem cell research, as well as fill her need for a bankable Hollywood leading man.

In the ensuing media frenzy, many questions have emerged about this quartet of mystery men. Who are they? Where did they come from? Could one of them really be the one, true Christopher Reeve, returned to us in our hour of greatest need? Are they heroes for a new era or merely shadowy doppelgängers bent on corrupting a lost and vulnerable country?!

These past weeks have been a terrible emotional roller coaster for us all. The appearance of the multiple Christopher Reeves has reopened a wound that was already slow to heal. It was our concern that creating this page would only add to the din of media outlets clamoring for the newest scoop or sensational soundbite, but we felt that no organization had yet provided an honest collection of true and verified facts. So we at the Lair of the Dreaded Atrox have made it our goal to create a single clearinghouse of information, where fact can be distinguished from rumor and rank speculation.

In this spirit we give you. . .

What follows is a collection of everything known thus far about each of the faux Reeves. Please remember, unless stated otherwise, all of this information is 100% fact!
